When you put your baby in a car seat it’s likely you feel they are safe but did you know there are new regulations and recommendations to consider?  Leading nursery brand Joie is sharing its expertise on car seat safety to mark this week’s Child Safety Week (1-7 June), the Child Accident Prevention Trust’s annual education programme.

Eyeing up i-Size ™

i-Size (or ECE R129) is the new EU standard for car seat safety which came into force this year in the UK. It will run parallel with the current regulation (ECE R44/04) until 2018 when it will become a mandatory testing requirement for the manufacturers of child seats in all EU Countries. Joie is very proud to hold the 001 certification for the first UK-government certified i-Size car seat with its i-Anchor™.

Keeping your child safer

i-Size regulations will reduce incorrect installation and require your child to sit facing rearward up to 15 months of age. i-Size has also introduced the first-ever side impact testing standards, which will improve protection of your child’s head and neck.

Facing rearwards

Recent research proved that a baby’s neck is not yet strong enough to support a baby’s heavy head until at least 15 months of age. i-Size requires rearward-facing travel to a minimum of 15 months to ensure the child’s neck has developed the strength needed to support an average forward collision.

Why do it now?

Today car seats are required to adhere to ECE R44/04 standards, which were established in the early 1980’s. But since that time the cars we drive have changed dramatically, and so has our knowledge about what happens during an accident. i-Size is the newest, safest standard for testing car seats. This means i-Size car seats are designed better, safer and stronger.

The Latest, Greatest and Safest Way to travel

The Joie factory produces six million car seats a year and has an exclusive government certified crash test facility which uses cutting edge technology for crash simulation. This aids in development and manufacturing of car seats offering ultimate quality, precision and structural integrity.

Joie car seats can be installed rearward facing up to approximately four years of age, with both the i-Anchor and i-Gemm being i-Size ready.  These work with an iAnchorFIX® base, offering a quick install with ISOFIX, provides a rock solid installation with a unique 7-position on-the-go recline for maximum comfort. It accepts both the Joie i-GemmTM, GemmTM and JuvaTM infant carriers and the i-AnchorTM.

i-Gemm is the first infant carrier from Joie with i-Size ECE R129 certification when used with the i-AnchorFIX base or i-Base. Both the i-GemmTM  and i-Anchor child seats feature exclusive multi-layered memory foam to give three layers of protection to the head during impact along with a multi-height position headrest.
