X Factor supremo Simon Cowell and his girlfriend Lauren Silverman were celebrating the birth of their new baby boy after his arrival on Valentine’s Day.
The 54-year-old music mogul had jetted over to New York to be by his partner’s side as she gave birth shortly before 11pm.
A spokesman for the X Factor judge said: “They are all OK. Simon was there for the birth. He landed at 6.15pm, British time, and he was at the hospital by about 7.15pm. He was there for the birth.”
Cowell had to take the first commercial flight available from London to make it in time after Lauren went into labour two weeks early at Lenox Hill Hospital.
Speaking to waiting photographers before the birth, the music millionaire, who missed the last day of taping auditions for his show Britain’s Got Talent, said his partner was “doing great”.
Cowell was spotted smoking a cigarette before heading into the hospital, despite the impresario declaring that he intended to quit the habit when the baby was born.
When asked about impending fatherhood, Cowell said: “There are a lot of boring things that happen when you have a baby
“You have to get rid of] sharp edges, cigarettes, alcohol … then there’s [baby-proofing] the toilet. But I’ll have a smoking room.”
Lauren, 37, previously said that she wanted to have the baby at home in Manhattan, where her mother could help out and so she could be near her eldest son Adam.
Her mother Carole Sandland was thought to be travelling from her home in Florida to be on hand to help with the newborn.
Cowell and his partner are expected to bring their son home to the £15,000-a-month apartment they are renting in Manhattan.
Lauren had been due to give birth on February 28 at Lenox Hill, one of Manhattan’s most exclusive hospitals. It is where Beyoncé gave birth to Blue Ivy in January 2012 and reportedly hired out an entire floor.
Affluent mothers can pay up to £1,000-a-night for private full-service rooms where there is one nurse to every mother and baby.
Earlier in the week Cowell had been overseeing Britain’s Got Talent auditions in London’s Hammersmith with fellow judges Amanda Holden, comedian David Walliams and singer Alesha Dixon.
It was reported last month that Cowell and his partner had decided to call their son Simon Cowell Junior, but a source close to the couple said they had yet to make a final decision.
