Over the last few years, the number of grandparents looking after their grandchildren has risen to over 10 million in the UK(1), with many helping to cut costs of expensive child care.
However, looking after young children can be somewhat of a challenge, particularly if they’re under the weather. It’s important that grandparents feel like that have the same support and knowledge that you do, so they feel properly prepared for when colds or bugs strike.
A ‘must have’ for any grandparents’ first aid kit is a reliable and easy to use thermometer, so they can easily check to see if their grandchildren are suffering from an elevated or high fever. Our latest high-precision thermometers offer not only you, but also your parents’ peace of mind and the ability to accurately monitor and understand a little one’s body temperature.
Which thermometer should they use?
This is all down to personal choice and what they find works best for them. We’ve developed two thermometers which both contain features that will help them take a temperature reading much more easily and most importantly, accurately.
The Age Precision technology in our ThermoScan® 7 Ear Thermometer allows grandparents to set their grandchildren’s age (0-3 months, 3-36 months and 36 months to adult) so they can get an accurate interpretation based on the age of the child. Age Precision® uses a colour coded display which shows green for normal, yellow for elevated and red shows a high temperature, so anyone using it can interpret a reading correctly.
It also features ExacTemp® guidance system and a patented, pre-warmed tip so that it doesn’t cool the ear canal before taking the temperature. The cooling effect of a traditional thermometer could impact accuracy of the measurement and it sometimes can be uncomfortable for the child.

We’ve also launched the No-Touch and Forehead Thermometer, the only thermometer to offer touch and no-touch technology. This nifty thermometer uses an innovative optical system which captures radiated heat emitted from the forehead from up to 5cm away, so they don’t have to wake their sick grandchild up to take a reading. It also features the colour coded display as well as a backlight and a no sound button. You can find out more about the No touch + forehead thermometer by reading our dedicated article here.
