‘I couldn’t give it away’: Victoria Beckham kept the dress she wore on her first date with David

She was just a young pop star called ‘Posh’ when she was getting ready for a night that would change her life in 1997.

And Victoria Beckham – now a darling designer of the fashion world – reveals she has kept the dress she wore on her first date with husband David back for over 17 years.

And the reason she’s hoarding the outfit? She wants to pass it down to her only daughter Harper.

Speaking to Stylist magazine, she said: ‘I kept my wedding dress.

‘I couldn’t give away the dress I first wore when I went out with David. It was a little high-street suede mini-dress so I’ve kept that for her.’

Victoria decided to keep the two dresses as she cleared out her extensive closet in a bid to raise money for charity Mothers2Mothers.

Over 600 items went under the hammer on TheOutnet website earlier this year, a process the former Spice Girl found ‘cathartic’.

She explains: ‘We went through 20 years of clothes and shoes, hundreds of boxes and rails, and it feels cathartic to have had such a big clear out for such a great cause.
‘There was a lot of hilarity, some bad dressing up ‘selfies’ and a few emotional moments, too.’

Her own wardrobe has recently been overshadowed by the launch of her flagship Victoria Beckham store in London.
The outlet, on posh Dover Street, opened to much fanfair last week, and shocked fans with its minimal approach to shopping.

The store boasts extra huge changing rooms, for the yummy mummies who take their kids with them, and no tills – with the well-trained assistants simply swiping your card when it’s time to pay.

And when it comes to the right staff, Victoria is adamant she only manages her hectic work and home lives because of the people she surrounds herself with.

She added the the magazine: ‘It’s pretty full on when I get home, getting the kids’ tea, bathing them, doing homework.

‘It’s a lot to do but I surround myself with the right people and just get on with it. I feel very lucky.’
