Mrs Brown’s Boys’ Fiona Delany Banned From Plane Because She’s Pregnant

“I got as far as the tarmac before I was stopped at the steps of the plane… it was ridiculous!”

Fiona Delany – who plays Maria in Mrs Brown’s Boys – is 36 weeks along in her pregnancy.

However, equipped with a letter from her doctor claiming she was “fit to fly for the month of September”, she thought she’d be able to board her flight from Glasgow to Dublin.

“I even had my solicitor with me, who said I would sign a waiver relieving Stobart Air of any responsibility if I did have any problems while flying but they still refused,” she told The Irish Sun.

But, despite being checked-in at the airport, Fiona was left fuming when flight staff stopped her from boarding the plane at the very last second.

She said: “I got as far as the tarmac before I was stopped at the steps of the plane.

“It was the captain in the end who ultimately called it, and said no.”

Fiona added: “It was ridiculous because I’ve already had three kids and I knew there wasn’t a chance I would give birth on that flight.”

Fiona, who already has three children, was forced to spend £640 on taxis and new flights after she was received travel.

She said: “Between taxis and new flights, it cost me so much money but it was all about getting back to my other three children who need me at home.

“I don’t blame Aer Lingus staff at Glasgow.

“It was the Stobart crew and pilot who stopped me at the steps of the plane. I don’t think Aer Lingus are fully aware of what’s going on.”

Aer Lingus Regional have since released a statement regarding the matter.

It reads: “With regard passengers travelling while pregnant, our policy is clear.

“Aer Lingus Regional will allow passengers to travel between the UK and Ireland up to week 32 of their pregnancy with a doctor’s written permission.

“Pregnant passengers between weeks 32-35 must have their doctor complete an ‘expectant mother travel advice form’.

“Aer Lingus Regional does not permit passengers who are over 36 weeks pregnant to fly. This is in the best interest of the health and well-being of our passengers.

“This policy is clearly outlined in the terms and conditions that all passengers must accept in advance of flying.”

Fiona begins her maternity leave tomorrow.
