Preparing To Become a New Dad

It may feel like it’s all about mum throughout the pregnancy but dads are such an important part of this journey too. Here are some tips to try and get to know your little one. Try singing and talking to your partners baby bump, this will help them to know your voice.

Try to be there for the scans, to meet your baby before they arrive. These are precious moments.

Talk to another Dad

No one can fully prepare a new dad for the arrival of his offspring or provide a manual for fatherhood. It helps to talk to other dads who can share their experiences and give some advice. Reach out to those friends and family members who have children and ask them questions.

Self-care

Looking after yourself is as important for new dads during pregnancy as it is for mums. Take care by adopting healthy eating habits, taking regular exercise and looking after your general well-being. Maybe do this together with your partner? Take as much paternity leave as you can when your baby arrives. You and your partner will need this time together to get to know your baby.

Be prepared for change

Life will change when your baby arrives, it will take time learning and adapting as a new parent and adopting a new routine in your social and family life. Nothing will prepare you for how you fall in love with your baby when you see them for the first time. There are many beautiful experiences to look forward to that will make it all worth it: capturing your baby’s first smile, those quiet little moments where you are holding your little one, and their first word, which is of course always “Dada”. Your baby will melt your heart!
